untitled about war
embroidery, 135x62cm
2022
With this embroidery, I wanted to fix some of my thoughts in March 2022. While it was restricted in Russia to speak freely in public about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I transferred the protest to the personal environment. The Soviet Union duvet cover became a banner of protest, visually linking these two terrible periods of history.
I see putin's regime as crumpled, tattered, and unwashed as this duvet cover. On the other hand, this piece of cloth can help protect from the fear and terror that this regime produces. This statement is a part of history I would like to forget: but I hardly believe I could ever do so.
